How To Use Scene Revision Letters and Scene Parts

Modified on Mon, 18 Dec 2023 at 04:31 PM

Often as a script is revised in prep, scene revision letters are used to add new scenes to a script after it’s been locked. For example 22A will be added between scene 22 and 23.

You add scene revision letters in Shot Lister. Go to scene settings and select the scene letter.

Where ever the scene number is displayed the revision letter will be after the number, for example “22A” (Scene 22, Revision A), but shot numbers also use a similar system on set. Traditionally the camera department will list the first shot of scene 22 as “22A”, so to avoid confusion the scene revision letter gets placed at the front of shot numbers.

So the second shot of scene 22A would be “A22B”,  Revision letter, scene number, shot letter.

Often as a scene needs to be split up in the schedule. Scene parts are a way of splitting up one scene into different parts, usually when one scene takes place in multiple locations.

You add scene parts in Shot Lister. Go to scene settings and select the scene part.
